El 2016 dejó un saldo tan negativo en materia de precipitaciones en las cuencas de los ríos Neuquén y Limay (Argentina) que desde la Autoridad Interjurisdiccional de Cuencas (AIC) se resolvió anticipar el cierre de la temporada de riego. “Lo hablamos y no había más opción que adelantar el cierre de la temporada de riego para poder bajar lo antes posible la erogación en ambos ríos”, explicó el referente por Neuquén en la AIC, Elías Sapag. Y detalló que “estamos erogando más agua que la que ingresa en las dos cuencas”.

Sapag explicó que el corte del servicio de riego se efectuará a partir del 1 de abril, lo que representa entre dos semanas y un mes menos de lo habitual. Pero además detalló que una vez interrumpido el riego, se atenuará la erogación tanto del Limay como del Neuquén, afectando por ende al Negro, para permitir embalsar la mayor cantidad de agua posible en las represas.

“El descenso toma unos diez días, tras los que el Limay va a llevar un caudal de 250 metros cúbicos por segundo y el Neuquén de 60”, explicó Sapag y señaló que actualmente los nivel son de 420 y 110 metros cúbicos por segundo, respectivamente.

La comisión directiva de la AIC analizó el impacto que tendría el peor escenario en materia de ríos que es que el 2017 sea un año tan seco como el pasado.

Según detalló Sapag “con las medidas que estamos tomando estaríamos en condiciones de poder garantizar el agua de consumo y de riego, pero en lo que hace al Neuquén hay que olvidarse de la generación de energía” en Cerros Colorados.

Precisamente Sapag explicó que “estamos a apenas un metro de la franja extraordinaria que marca que desde la AIC tomemos el control del río Neuquén”. Aunque advirtió que “ya hace un tipo que acordamos con Cammesa –la empresa nacional mayorista de energía– que no toque el embalse Cerros Colorados”.

La situación en el río Limay sería un poco más relajada aunque en función de que la acumulación de agua se está produciendo en la represa Piedra del Águila, Sapag anticipó que “si continúa esta tendencia, el nivel de agua en el Chocón va a seguir bajando, pero no tanto como lo que ya vemos hoy en Mari Menuco donde es llamativa la bajante”.
