Optimizar al máximo el uso del agua de riego para llevar a cabo una programación «eficiente» y «competitiva» en las explotaciones. Este es el objetivo de InfoRiego, la aplicación gratuita en formato de App creada por el Instituto Tecnológico Agrario de Castilla y León, Itacyl, para ofrecer a los regantes un instrumento «sencillo» de manejar para obtener recomendaciones de riego de sus cultivos.

Así lo explica el subdirector de infraestructuras agrarias del Itacyl, Rafael Sáez, que señala la importancia de que las nuevas tecnologías lleguen a todos los agricultores para «sacarle el máximo rendimiento». La aplicación InfoRiego ofrece a los usuarios una ventaja: la «inmediatez» de realizar consultas de recomendaciones de riego para sus cultivos «en tiempo real», y a pie de parcela. Algo que para Sáez es «determinante» en cualquier momento de la campaña de riego, además de eliminar «incertidumbre» en el momento de la ejecución del riego. No hay que olvidar que la situación actual de los embalses en la Cuenca del Duero, de forma especial en sistemas como el Carrión o el Órbigo, compromete en estos momentos la campaña. De hecho, la CHD ha recomendado a los agricultores que «seleccionen» los mejores cultivos en función del agua disponible.

Este desarrollo tecnológico para optimizar el uso de agua de riego se convierte en una pieza fundamental este año. Esta nueva herramienta puede suponer para el usuario un ahorro de hasta un 35% de agua y energía, además de un incremento significativo de la productividad.

Por otra parte, y como destaca el subdirector de infraestructuras agrarias, la aplicación del Itacyl tiene dos vertientes: la que ofrece esta tecnología para dispositivos móviles en riegos particulares, y la posibilidad de que la información de InfoRiego se incorpore también a los sistemas de gestión que ya manejan las comunidades de regantes. Dos líneas de trabajo que repercuten en una mayor competividad agraria.

El servicio de asesoramiento al regante gestionado por el Itacyl lleva en funcionamiento desde el año 2002, con el objetivo de «dinamizar» el sector agrario de regadío de Castilla y León. Hasta este momento, este servicio había utilizado otras herramientas o canales de información para divulgar las recomendaciones de riego a los usuarios, a través de la web, mensajes de telefonía móvil y de correos electrónicos.

La App supone un paso más, como apuntan desde la administración autonómica, para aprovechar el «potencial» de las nuevas tecnologías. Hasta el momento se han registrado más de 500 descargas de la aplicación disponible en google play para dispositivos Android, móviles y tablets, a partir de la versión 4.0.

Esta aplicación utiliza los mismos parámetros que se usan actualmente en el sistema tradicional de InfoRiego, al emplear valores calculados para los cultivos de regadío más importantes de Castilla y León. Esto favorece, según los técnicos, un cálculo «realista» y «preciso» de las necesidades de riego en cada momento del cultivo.

El objetivo de la administración es ampliar la funcionalidad de este aplicativo para «ofrecer una planificación de riego más completa» y ajustada a las circunstancias del manejo llevado a cabo en cada caso, y a las características edafológicas de cada parcela.

Así, el Itacyl quiere no solo mostrar la estimación de las necesidades hídricas a suplir con el riego, sino indicar el momento «idóneo» en que es preciso aplicar el riego con notificaciones al usuario. Entre esas líneas de trabajo de futuro abiertas se estudia también la posibilidad de mostrar datos de predicciones meteorológicas de la AEMT, o realizar modificaciones en los cultivos dados de alta.

El reto es llegar a todas las comunidades de regantes o riegos particulares, por eso, el Itacyl mantiene una línea de asesoramiento abierta con el sector para que el aplicativo móvil se apoye en el trabajo del día a día, y recoja sus necesidades.

Su manejo es sencillo. Una vez que el usuario está en la pantalla de bienvenida, basta con indicar su superficie, tipo de cultivo, sistema de riego y ubicación, así como la fecha en la que ha sembrado, la fecha del inicio del riego en el cultivo y la del último riego. A partir de este momento, como señala Rafael Sáez, el sistema Info Riego calculará y presentará una recomendación de riego para ese cultivo en el momento actual. En solo unos minutos se puede estar recibiendo recomendaciones de riego para las parcelas.

El diseño permite añadir funcionalidades que mejoren el aplicativo, aunque las necesidades básicas «se mantendrán», lo que garantizará a los usuarios con necesidades esenciales contar con un sistema fácil de manejar, y a los más exigentes disponer de opciones avanzadas de gestión y configuración.

Ahorrar agua y, por tanto, también energía son dos elementos indispensables de cara a una mayor rentabilidad agraria. Este servicio a los regantes, gestionado desde el Itacyl, se presta a partir de los datos agroclimáticos obtenidos de las 53 estaciones agrometeorológicas integradas en la red SiAR. Es uno de los principales referentes en el asesoramiento telemático al regante en Castilla y León.
