Resultado de la existencial necesidad en un territorio seco, el modelo israelí combina plantas desalinizadoras, revolucionarios métodos agrícolas y tecnologías que han convertido un país sin agua en uno que proporciona a otros. La lluvia es una bendición pero ya no una urgencia. «El objetivo de nuestra visita es mostrar nuevas tecnologías israelíes, que ya han sido probadas con éxito, a socios existentes o potenciales en España. La cooperación es buena pero se puede profundizar mucho más para el bien de las dos partes», comenta el jefe de la comitiva a Andalucía, Elad Frenkel, que también preside el congreso WATEC en Tel Aviv.

Su empresa Aqwise, dedicada al tratamiento biológico de aguas residuales, está presente en el sector público y privado español. «España también necesita riego inteligente y buen uso de las aguas residuales. Israel es el país que más recicla en el mundo con más del 80% y el segundo es España con alrededor del 20%», indica. «Debido al factor geopolítico, Israel es una especie de isla que siempre necesitó generar sus propios recursos», cuenta evocando plantas que no sólo recolectan agua del mar sino que la generan y sistemas como el riego por goteo desarrollado por Netafim. En esta empresa en el desierto del Negev, se suele decir: «Nuestra clave no es ser brillantes, sino querer sobrevivir».

La delegación israelí en España está formada por 15 personas y 10 empresas. Pero la relación acuífera es de ida y vuelta, ya que, por ejemplo, la empresa española Sacyr construyó en 2015 la última gran planta desaladora israelí en Ashdod.

No es la primera vez que el fundador y director general de Takadu, Amir Peleg, llega a España, donde colabora desde hace cuatro años. Su startup, presente en once países, ofrece un software que detecta y soluciona problemas en el sistema hídrico alertando sobre fugas y todo tipo de anomalías. Como muchos inventos, Takadu nació por necesidad. «Dada la grave crisis de agua en el 2010, no podíamos usarla mucho en Israel. Con un software, quisimos resolver el problema de las pérdidas de agua calculadas en un 25% en el mundo», recuerda Peleg. Y apunta: «Fuimos la primera empresa en el mundo que trajo la analítica, Cloud, Big Data y algoritmos al campo del agua para analizar datos de las empresas de aguas».

Red de agua inteligente

«España tiene un problema similar al de Israel. Nosotros no llegamos para enseñar, sino para cooperar y aprender también de los españoles, que son muy profesionales», comenta revelando sus dos exitosas experiencias con la empresa Udal Sareak en Bilbao y FCC Acualia. Esta última dirige la red de aguas en Almería usando la tecnología de Takadu, lo que ya ha permitido reducir la pérdida de agua.

«El director de Udal Sareak nos dijo que gracias a Takadu, pueden centrarse en lo que es importante y no sólo en lo que es urgente. Decidir qué es lo más importante y no limitarse a actuar cuando un ciudadano se queja de una fuga», destaca. Hydrospin, por su parte, ofrece un generador que suministra electricidad para supervisar y controlar el agua en zonas alejadas y desconectadas. Las 24 horas del día durante los siete días de la semana, recalcan desde esta empresa presente ya en varios continentes.

«Puede desarrollar una energía de 20 vatios, que es una cantidad más que suficiente. Convertimos la red de agua en inteligente para que puedan transmitir la información. Nuestra caja electrónica es también un registrador de datos», comenta a EL MUNDO su director de marketing, Ohad Lev.

La electricidad producida puede ser utilizada para diversas aplicaciones, incluyendo sistemas de monitorización de agua, válvula de control remoto, calidad del agua, registradores de datos, reducción de presión de control o sensores. Gracias a la producción de microenergía nacida de generadores de tuberías, las ciudades pueden gestionar sus redes de agua.

Creada por dos jóvenes en 2013, Utilis se especializa en la localización de fugas de agua con el uso de satélites. «Nosotros traemos un cambio en un campo que no vio nuevas tecnologías en los últimos 50 años», dice Eddi Segal, representando a una empresa que coopera con Suez Spain. «Podemos hacer mapas de lugares donde creemos que puede haber fugas, por lo que la red de aguas se hace mucho más efectiva», añade desde una Startup sofisticada y pequeña con sólo 15 empleados.

¿Cómo ve el futuro? preguntamos a Peleg. «El agua es un elemento que escasea y además mucha gente lo desperdicia, pero soy optimista porque la conciencia sobre su importancia crece, lo que puede presionar a gobiernos y empresas a ser más eficaces», responde.

«Creo que en unos 10 ó 20 años el problema del agua se solucionará en el mundo como lo hicimos aquí. Invertimos mucho en plantas desaladoras y hoy, por primera vez en nuestra historia, tenemos más agua de la que necesitamos», añade.

Según la ONU, 663 millones de personas no tienen acceso a fuentes de agua potable. Por ejemplo, en la vecina y paupérrima Gaza, donde el agua potable es casi un lujo para sus dos millones de habitantes. Peleg se despide con un mensaje universal: «El agua es vida. Puedes intentar vivir sin electricidad, sin móviles… pero no puedes sin agua».
