Perú podría convertirse en el mayor exportador de arándanos del mundo

El Proyecto Chavimochic, que permite el riego de las tierras de los valles de Chao, Virú, Moche y Chicama, en la región La Libertad, ha permitido el cultivo de muchos productos agroindustriales que han puesto al Perú entre los principales países agroexportadores del mundo.

Uno de esos productos es el arándano, cuyas proyecciones en la presente campaña (2018-2019), según el responsable de Extensión Agraria del Proyecto Chavimochic, Carlos Valverde, permitirá exportar 76,000 toneladas por un valor de 600 millones de dólares.

Valverde indicó que durante el 2017 las exportaciones de arándanos alcanzaron 281 millones 415,111 dólares, representando alrededor del 30 por ciento del total de las agroexportaciones desde esos valles norteños que a asciende a 927 millones 775, 973 dólares.

El funcionario estimó, asimismo, que en la siguiente campaña (2019-2020) se proyecta que los envíos de arándanos alcanzarían las 100,000 toneladas, que generaría un valor de 800 millones de dólares, mientras que en la campaña siguiente (2020/2021) los despachos sumarían 120,000 toneladas por 1,000 millones de dólares.

“Estos datos confirman que los arándanos se convertirían en el principal producto de agroexportación del Perú, superando a la uva, al café y palta. Los arándanos convertirían al Perú en el principal exportador mundial de la baya agridulce”, indicó.

Valverde afirmó que actualmente se cuenta con unas 3,000 hectáreas dedicadas al cultivo del arándano, entre las grandes agroindustriales y las asociaciones de agricultores de los valles que compromete Chavimochic.
