Durante la actual administración federal se logró incrementar 30 por ciento la superficie tecnificada de riego agrícola en el país, respecto a la que se tenía acumulada hasta el año 2012 con lo que se superó la meta sexenal en 146 mil hectáreas tecnificadas.
En comunicado, la Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (Sagarpa) señaló que en México la agricultura se practica en 22 millones de hectáreas, de las cuales alrededor de seis millones son de riego en diferentes modalidades. De estas, abundó la dependencia, hasta el año 2012, había dos millones de hectáreas tecnificadas.
Al arranque de la presente administración se tenía como meta sexenal alcanzar las 480 mil hectáreas de riego tecnificado, pero con el esfuerzo de los trabajadores del campo y conforme a las políticas públicas impulsadas por la dependencia, se llegó a 626 mil hectáreas, es decir 146 mil por arriba de la meta.
Al finalizar este año habrá dos mil 626 millones de hectáreas de riego tecnificado, con lo que se consiguió un ahorro potencial de mil 320 millones de metros cúbicos de agua para uso agrícola en esta administración, lo que equivale al consumo del vital líquido en la Ciudad de México durante un año y medio.
La Sagarpa destacó que de 2013 a 2017, el gobierno de la República realizó la tecnificación de cerca de 564 mil hectáreas de riego, con lo cual rebasó la meta de tecnificar 480 mil hectáreas de riego en todo el país, un incremento de 6.7 por ciento respecto a lo realizado en el mismo periodo de la pasada administración. Para junio de 2018 se estableció un presupuesto modificado por mil 66.3 millones de pesos que permitirán la tecnificación de 62 mil 647 hectáreas más, con lo cual se espera concluir el sexenio con cerca de 626 mil hectáreas tecnificadas, es decir, 30 por ciento más de la meta sexenal programada.
Al mismo mes de este año, se autorizaron 361 solicitudes por un monto de 194.5 millones de pesos, lo que representa 11 mil 842 hectáreas, que implican un ahorro potencial de agua por 26 millones de metros cúbicos.
Las entidades federativas con mayor número de solicitudes son: Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Colima, Durango, Hidalgo, México, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Tamaulipas, Chihuahua, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Veracruz, Yucatán, Zacatecas y la Región Lagunera.
