La Federación Nacional de Comunidades de Regantes (Fenacore) ha impulsado un proyecto europeo que promoverá a gran escala un sistema de riego inteligente capaz de ahorrar hasta un 30% de energía y un 30% de agua, sin afectar a los estándares de calidad que los mercados exigen a los cultivos.
Con el nombre de Life Irriman, se desarrolla con fondos de la Unión Europea en colaboración con el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), la Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPTC) o la Universidad de Córdoba (UCO), entre otras instituciones, según ha divulgado Fenacore en un comunicado.
“Responde a la necesidad actual de que los proyectos de modernización de regadíos satisfagan una doble eficiencia: hídrica y energética”, ha especificado.

El presidente de Fenacore, Andrés del Campo, ha presentado los resultados del proyecto de riego inteligente durante la jornada celebrada este jueves 16 en la Politécnica de Madrid.
Ha apuntado que, desde que se suprimieran las tarifas especiales en 2008, el término de potencia se ha incrementado en más de un 1.000%, lo que ha provocado que “el aumento medio de la factura eléctrica para el regadío haya sido superior al 100%, haciendo inviables buena parte de los sistemas de riego ya modernizados, que ahorran agua, pero demandan más energía”.
Irriman, que se ha aplicado ya en zonas regables de Murcia y Córdoba, “supone un salto cualitativo al demostrar la viabilidad de esta solución que, mediante un algoritmo, indica de forma sencilla al agricultor cómo, cuándo y cuánto debe regar, ajustando al máximo el consumo de recursos”, ha asegurado Fenacore.
Además, “sirve de referencia a los regantes de todo el arco mediterráneo”, que comparten con los españoles la necesidad, por un lado, “de producir más con menos agua en un entorno donde cada vez hay menos recursos per cápita y, por otro, de reducir los costes derivados del alto consumo energético de los sistemas modernizados”.
Con las cifras del proyecto Irriman sobre la mesa, los regantes piden al Ejecutivo que articule la normativa marco que permita no sólo avanzar en la modernización de regadíos de acuerdo a este doble ahorro de agua y energía, sino también “impulsar la producción de energía distribuida para autoconsumo con el fin de hacer efectiva una reducción de las tarifas”.
